What are the challenges of vitamin and supplement fulfilment?
Temperature and Climate Control
Most vitamin, supplement, and other health related products must be kept at certain temperatures, and in certain climates to ensure the product does not spoil or lose its potency. It can sometimes be hard to meet these requirements, resulting in an excess of damaged, spoiled, and unusable stock.
Expiration Management
Similarly to the previous point, these types of products tend to have expiry dates that must be followed to avoid health risks and spoilage. Having an inventory management system such as FIFO in place is therefore crucial. However, perfecting your inventory management system can be challenging and costly.
Customer Demand
You need to be able to meet customer demand. If you can’t, they may end up looking elsewhere! ‘New trends’ and seasonal fluctuations are something that you need to be able to handle, which can become even more tricky due to the nature of the products that are being sold.
Returns Management
Returns are sometimes, simply inevitable. It becomes slightly more complex when dealing with products that have expiry dates since you must decide what to do with the product when it is sent back. If you are re-selling it, its important that the returned orders are sent out first, due to their expiry date.
Disposals
If you aren’t selling enough products, you may end up having to get rid of the unsold, expired products, which can be costly. Not only this, but disposals need to be carried out safely and properly due to the nature of the products, making the process slightly more complex.
